Geico Caveman Commercials: Love 'Em or Hate 'Em?

I love these Geico commercials. The guys who play the cavemen are great at expressing their feelings with just a look, an inflection and body language. It's been fun to learn these characters' personalities with each "episode." This series is simply brilliant. I think the people who hate these commercials simply do not understand them.

These are my favorites so far. For some reason I can't get the parameters to copy so here are the links.

Those commercials are very good. Did I read somewhere that there is some thought being given to a movie?

Yes, there is supposed to be a sitcom. I hope that it is well written and that it is successful.

Cavemen Sitcom

Geico's Cavemen Bound For ABC

ABC has plans to turn a series of quirky commercials for insurance provider Geico which revolve around a number of indignant cavemen into a half-hour comedy pilot, Variety reported. Taking its cue from the ads, Cavemen centers on three prehistoric men who must battle prejudice as they attempt to live as normal 30-somethings in modern Atlanta.

The pilot was written by Joe Lawson, the advertising copywriter who was behind the ads, as well as other comedic Geico spots. Daniel Rappaport, Guymon Cassady, Will Speck and Josh Gordon are executive-producing. Speck and Gordon, commercial directors who recently helmed the Will Farrell feature Blades of Glory, are on board to also direct.

The single-camera pilot is based on a series of Geico ads that promote the insurance company's Web site as so user-friendly that even "a caveman could do it." The spots follow cavemen as they react with offense to the derogatory slogan in modern locations such as a cable news program, an upscale restaurant, the airport and a therapist's office.

Jeff Daniel Phillips and Ben Weber play the cavemen in the Geico spots; it is unknown whether they will also appear in the series.

I get a total kick out of the Geico Caveman Commercials. A few of them are a little light on the creativity in my mind but I applaud those guys for their sense of humor. That sitcom may be the first one I check in on in a long time.

I don't know if Geico has one ad agency or several, but they have a lot of really great campaigns. It's not just the gecko and the cavemen, but the motorcycle ones on radio are pretty good too. It's not like AFLAC, which has just one really great campaign.

Some of the famous singer ones kind of annoy me, but now I know that as I grow old and senile, the last thing I will forget about Burt Bacharach is him singing "She got hit.. in the rear! Lizard licks, his eyeball."

Hey Voyageur! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Yeah, I don't care for the GEICO celebrity commercials either. One of my other favorites from GEICO is the lizard when he's in his little red sports car and sunglasses. Headed for the Employee of the Month parking space.

This entry is nearly a year and a half old, but I would still enjoy seeing the favorites I've mentioned here.

My discontent with these commercials is so strong that I was moved to put "I hate those cavemen" in Google and that's how I got here. I could not believe the prospect of a series came up and was not surprised when it was over very quickly. I "get" them,I simply don't like them and everyone I have spoken to don't like them so with every new commercial I am surprised its been made. I would understand better if they made a series with the cute lizard; the character comes off much smarter and I believe would have broader appeal. That "yeah that's how I roll" commercial was just on as I am writing this! Arrrr!! Thanks for letting me get this out.

LOL Newbie. I know how it feels to HATE a commercial, especially when they run them ad nauseam. I did not care for the cavemen sitcom AT ALL. I'm not sure I've seen the "that's how I roll" commercial yet, but I do seem to remember seeing a new cavemen commercial and wasn't too impressed.

Thanks for stopping by and expressing your opinion.

I also am someone that felt such a hatred towards these Geico caveman commercials that I came to this site by typing "I hate Geico cavemen commercials" into Google. I also am not someone that does not "get" them. I "get" them, but they just are not funny. They are actually very, very annoying. I cannot believe that they keep writing more commercials. I wish they would come up with something new - almost anything would be better than these cavemen.

Orion, I don't know if you will be back, but everyone who has come here to say that they "get" the cavemen commercials and still don't like them have never stated "why" they don't like them. What is it, exactly, that you all do not like about the cavemen?

i hate the geico cavemen commercials. The make up is horrible and what does this have to do with car insurance? What is the point?

I don't get the one with the Caveman and girl on the beach - where the airplane flies by with a Geico banner - and the Caveman says "I'll wait in the car" - I get the others, and most are funny - but this one, I just don't get it . . .

Easily one of the stupidest ideas ever and the commercials as well as the horrible tv show are so incredibly bad. There is no way anyone can tell me anything to do with the "cavemen" is even remotely funny and for all these people on this site to say they are "quirky", "very good", "funny", or "clever" is just plain crazy.

Beyond stupid and it is incomprehensible to me how anyone can even think they are remotely funny.

Orion- you hit it on the head.

I get them and they are ridiculously stupid because-

the makeup is bad, the actors are terrible, the idea is stupid....not to mention they are not eeven remotely "quqirky" or "funny." All of those things combine to make them just about the stupident commercials out there.

I would love to see a giant Gecko- who, by the way, IS cute & funny- kill and eat all the stupid cavemen...

lol joe great idea, geico should use that. well anyway, i've always despised those idiot cavemen, i just saw tgis HORRIBLE one of them on motorcycles with bad music playing, and hopefully geico will come to their senses and stop those commercials.

i never bothered watching the sitcom (i dont even no when its on) but im sure it was as stupid as the commercials.

Peace, and kill those cavemen lol (i no HYPOCRITE!)

Oh my God, I detest those disgusting cavemen! I actually switched my car insurance from Geico to State Farm just because I can not do business with the company that runs those ads. The commercials are stupid, the cavemen are gross, and I am sick, sick, SICK of looking at them.

Is it just me or does anyone else find these commercials to be sexist? They just rub me the wrong way.. it seems they scream of bachelor, boys club, women are sex objects mentality. I can also attest to the reactions of men in this demographic, they are frequently the ones that refer to this commercial as being so cool.

I found this site also by typing I hate the caveman commercials into google, like Newbie did. It was mentioned that no one who has come by and stated that they "get" them and still hate them have given reason for it. Well, I "get" them, hate them and I have a reason, so here it is for you: I fail to find the plight of a minority (even a fictional one) trying to fight discrimination something to laugh at. I am disgusted that a minority being discriminated and thought to be less than "human" (black history anyone?) is being made into a commercial that's supposed to be comedy and laughed at. If I want good humor, I'll go laugh at Victor Borge or Mitch Hedberg, NOT at the plight of a minority. THAT is why I hate those blasted commercials.

Stainedfeathers, thanks for your comments. I think we are ALL discriminated against at some point in our lives (for whatever reason) so I think we can empathize. While I don't condone discrimination of any kind, I think you're taking this way too seriously.

I too hate these cavemen commercials. Have considered dropping Geico because of lizards and cavemen. Why? I don't find them funny. They are sort of "out there"....and furthermore, they say nothing to tell me why I should buy their product rather than that of a competing insurance company.
